Ranked as one of America's Top 10 Psychiatric Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital is a leading center for comprehensive clinical care in the treatment of mental illness. With a 70-bed psychiatric inpatient facility and a variety of partial hospital and intensive outpatient specialty programs, we offer a full spectrum of innovative and advanced treatments to adolescents, adults and geriatric patients with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. We also offer specialized programs for patients with dual diagnosis disorders.
As an affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine's department of psychiatry, we're proud to serve as a leading center for education in behavioral health. We offer training programs in psychiatry, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation and psychiatric nursing. We're also a renowned research center, offering exciting opportunities to participate in sophisticated studies in many areas, including recent work on:
- Examinations of the neurobiological basis for auditory hallucinations
- Studies on the brain mechanisms producing mood dysregulation associated with borderline personality disorder
- Development of innovative psychological and social treatment approaches to substance abuse
- Early detection and intervention in the treatment of schizophrenia
Our multidisciplinary treatment teams are devoted to addressing the complexities of behavioral health disorders through the use of the most advanced assessment tools and interventions available. From state-of-the-art ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) services available to both inpatients and outpatients to a comprehensive Psychiatric Consultation Service available to patients in all areas of Yale-New Haven Hospital, our commitment to providing a full range of expert services translates directly into a challenging, collaborative and deeply rewarding professional environment for caregivers in all related fields.
Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital's facilities include an 8-bed geriatric service unit; a 15-bed adolescent inpatient unit and 25-slot intensive outpatient program; and the 15-bed Children's Psychiatric Inpatient Unit operated at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Our adult psychiatric services include a 24-bed adult inpatient program, a dual diagnosis and detoxification program, and partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs.
